JAMMU, Dec 29: Senior vice president, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) and former Minister, Sham Lal Sharma, today condemned the brutal lathi charge on NHM employees and urged the Government to consider their genuine demands.
In a statement issued here, Sham said that NHM employees who were peacefully protesting against the Government for redressal of their genuine demands were brutally lathi charged to suppress their peaceful protest.
Sham said that present Government’s slogan of “Beti Padhao Beti Bachao” has proved hollow by brutally cane charging female NHM employees. He said that Government’s slogan of ‘Beti Padhao Beti Bachao’ is just hogwash to befool the common people.
He said that it is pity on BJP-PDP Government, not paying any heed to the genuine demands of health employees, who perform multifarious duties and are the backbone of Health Department.
The former Minister said that with the health sector in the State already on crunches and the strike of the NHM employees had resulted in collapse of the health infrastructure, particularly in rural areas with a reckless making situation worse confounded.
Rather than visiting the site of protest to satisfy the employees which was the prime responsibility of the Minister concerned, a lathi-charge was ordered against the protesters resulting in aggravation of tensions.
Sham said that general public and employees could not be made to suffer due to negligence of Government. Sharma said that the present BJP-PDP Government has become arrogant and don’t allow the employees to air their genuine grievances to appropriate authorities.
The senior JKPCC leader urged upon the Government to consider the genuine demands of NHM employees on priority basis, instead of giving them inhuman treatment.
