Sham reviews status of water supply schemes

KATHUA, July 14 : Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary convened a meeting to review the status of ongoing and targeted Water Supply Schemes in Kathua district here today.

The Minister reviewed the practical and ground level implication of the scheme along with the financial progress. The meeting was informed about the present status of major Water Supply Schemes of Kathua district. Threadbare discussion was also held on projecting new schemes for Kathua and other areas having acute shortage of water.
The Minister instructed engineers to prepare necessary DPRs for water supply schemes as projected by legislators and various other stakeholders. He also asked them for early submission of utilization certificates to the Central Government for smooth and regular funding under various components. He further instructed them to make regular visits in the field to get familiar with the ground level situation and impending issues.
The Minister further added that the farmers of Kathua and Samba will soon get major relief after completion of Shahpur Kandi Project which provides sufficient water not only to farmers but also augment water supply for other purposes.
Citing benefits of irrigation project on Wajoo nallah in village Khokhayal of Kathua district, which is supposed to irrigate 3215 hectares farming land of the dozen adjoining villages, Sham Choudhary said that water from this Check Dam can be used by farmers throughout the year and will help in improving the socio-economic conditions of the farmers.
The Minister also visited Lift Station Lakhanpur and inspected the recently commissioned machines. Plantation drive was also held in and around the Lakhanpur Lift Station.
Later, several deputations met the Minister and apprised him of various problems being faced by them. The Minister gave them a patient hearing and assured them of concrete steps to mitigate the genuine grievances.
ADC, Dr Bharat Bhushan, Chief Engineer PHE Jammu Sushil Aima, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Jammu, Rajeev Gandotra, Chief Engineer RTIC, H C Jerath and all concerned officers were present on the occasion.
