Sham meets CEC LAHDC, takes stock of drinking water issues

LEH, Sept 27: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Chaudhary today convened a meeting with CEC, LAHDC, Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo and four Executive Councilors during which he was apprised of various issues regarding the department, particularly of drinking water.
During the meeting, which was also attended by SE PWD, Ex-en PHE and senior engineers of the department, the CEC highlighted major issues and raised problems pertaining to National Rural Drinking Water, held up salary of daily wagers of PHE department, filling of vacant posts and water supply provisions in winter months.
He also took up the issue of suffering of work in starting working months due non-procurement of required supply material, continuing the scheme of hand pumps in Leh district and compensation fund for damages caused due to rise in the water level of Indus River.
Responding to the raised issues, the Minister informed that the money under NRDW has been reduced with great margin in the entire State but it will be covered in BADP. He said sooner the project report will come from Leh, money will be released.
On procurement of winter stocking, the Minister instructed Ex-En PHE to send the demand list and assured its supply before closure of national highway. Chaudhary also announced two hand pumps for each councilor and 600 hand pumps in total to Leh district. He asked CEC and instructed Ex-En PHE to submit detail report on problems and demands to his office and gave full assurance to meet all the demands.
Later, the Minister made a surprise visit to Ibex colony and found the hand pump non functional. The Minister gave on spot direction to rectify the hand pump in days and to submit a list of number of hand pumps functional, non-functional, dry, one that can be rectify and that cannot. He also visited to the war widow colony and interacted with the residents and directed the Ex-En PHE to try installing hand pumps in the colony and redress their water problem.
