AKHNOOR, Jan 5: On the eve of birth anniversary of 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Govind Singhji, an impressive Nagar Keertan procession was taken out in Akhnoor town by the Sikh Sangat with lot of enthusiasm and religious fervour. The Nagar Keertan was organized by the Sikh Sangat of Akhnoor and adjoining areas.
The procession was flagged off by the Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma from Daskal More, that passed through Jammu-Poonch Highway via main bazaar Akhnoor and culminated at Gurudwara Sunder Singh located along the right bank of river Chenab. The devotees also organized Guru Keertan at the Gurudwara after the procession.
Thousands of Sikh devotees, including men, women and children from various parts of Akhnoor tehsil participated in the procession. The devotees were so enthusiastic and chanted slogans in favour of Sikh Gurus like Raaj Karega Khalsa, Jo Bole So Nihal Satsari Akal etc. The prominent citizens of Akhnoor town welcomed and greeted the devotees at different places.
While greeting Sikh Sangat on the eve of Parkash Utsav, the Minister threw light on the teachings of Sikh Gurus. He said all Sikh Gurus spread the message of humanity, peace, equality and promoting mutual brotherhood. They worked for uniting the religions, communities, eradicating social evils and uplifting the poor and weaker sections of the society.
He said teachings of Guruji are relevant all times and people should follow these for the development, peace and prosperity of the society and mankind. He exhorted the devotees to celebrate the Gur Parv with enthusiasm and traditional fervour and take a pledge to work for strengthening the communal harmony, mutual brother hood and eradicating the social evils from the society, which are eating the vitals of society.
