Sham distributes 80 LPG connections under PMUY

JAMMU, Jan 27: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today distributed LPG connections among 80 BPL women beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in Suchetgarh.
While addressing the gathering, the Minister said the Government launched this scheme to empower women and reduce the risk of serious health hazards associated with cooking on unclean fuel. The use of LPG is more efficient and doesn’t pollute the air as in the case of fossil fuels, he added.
He further said the aim of the government is to bring all genuine BPL women in the State under the ambit of the scheme so that they get relief from the unhealthy ways of cooking. The smoke from the fuels not only affects women but have dangerous affects on the health of young children also, he added.
The Minister further informed that the government provides an insurance cover of Rs. 6 lakh in case of  death per person per event due to an accident while using LPG while as compensation of Rs. 20,000 would be provided to the injured in case of such mishap. In case of loss of damage to property in the accidental fire due to LPG use, Rs. 2 lakh would be provided to the victim as compensation.
Spelling out measures initiated to improve living standards of women in the state, the Minister highlighted launch of various welfare schemes for girls including Ladli Beti, State Marriage Assistance Scheme, AASRA etc. which are a testimony of government’s seriousness towards the empowerment of women. He fervently appealed the women to come forward and take optimum benefit of these schemes for good of their community.
