JAMMU, Jan 4: The 4-day Hareesa Festival being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) began here today. The festival was inaugurated by Managing Director, JKTDC, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary.
Senior officers of JKTDC and a large number of guests were present on the occasion.
The Hareesa Festival is being organized by the Corporation at its familiar restaurant Wazwaan at TRC Complex Jammu. Besides Hareesa, the guests are being also served traditional Kashmiri bakery and Noon Chai (salt tea) at the festival.
As the temperatures fall, Hareesa is the perfect and preferred breakfast in Kashmir which is prepared by grounding mutton to a paste and using rich and aromatic spices during cooking.
“We have brought expert cooks from Kashmir to prepare the Hareesa and traditional Kashmiri bakery for the festival,” Dr Shahid said, adding that Hareesa will be served to the guests from 7 am to 9 am daily during the festival days.
Large number of people, mostly tourists from outside the State, thronged the Wazwaan restaurant this morning to tantalize their taste buds with the Kashmiri Hareesa and bakery.
According to health experts, Hareesa has double the nutritional value than mutton, particularly when it is eaten early in the morning.
Hareesa is much better than junk food as it has no preservatives or chemical ingredients. It is a rich source of protein and fat, and also helps rebuilt tissues. However, it is to be taken in limited quantities.
