Shaheedi Yatra to mark 300th anniversary of martyrdom of Banda Singh Bahadur

JAMMU, May 29:  District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu, in collaboration with State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board, is organizing various programmes to commemorate 300th anniversary of martyrdom of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, a great warrior who laid the foundation of Sikh rule in India.
In this connection, a nine-day Shaheedi Yatra is being organized from Dera Baba Banda Singh Bahadur in Reasi to Delhi.
This was informed by Jagjit Singh, president of DGPC Jammu, while addressing a press conference, here today.
“The Shaheedi Yatra will start from Dera Baba Banda Singh Bahadur on May 31, under the supervision of Baba Jatinder Pal Singh, and will reach Jammu on the same day.  Minister of State in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh and Sikh Sangat will welcome the Yatra, which will pass through various areas of the Jammu city and then resume its onward journey to Kathua around 3 PM,” he explained.
The DGPC president said that the main attraction of the Yatra would be displaying of rare Shastras (weaponry) and Vastras (dresses) used by Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, who fought various battles against the oppressors. “Besides, there will an exhibition of the paintings on the life of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur while religious preachers will throw light on the contribution of this great martyr for establishing Sikh rule,” he added and appealed the people, particularly Sikh Sangat to welcome the Yatra at various places.
Further, he informed, District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee is also organizing a religious programme on June 11 at Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Nanak Nagar Jammu, in which renowned Ragis and Pracharaks will participate.
The DGPC also appealed the district administration to make adequate security as well as traffic arrangements to avoid any inconvenience to Sangat and general public.
