Shaheedi Divas of Guru Arjan Dev Ji observed

JAMMU/ SRINAGAR, June 17: Shaheedi Divas of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji was celebrated in Jammu today.
The main function was organized by the management committee of Gurudwara Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji Akhnoor Road, Domana, under the patronage of Sant Tejwant Singh, chairman Sant Pura Dana Charitable Trust.
A large number of devotees from all over Jammu  attended the function. Besides various local Ragis Bhai Davinder Singh, Bhai Kulvinder Singh, Bibi Harvinder Kour  renowned Ragis including Bhai Shoukeen Singh Hazuri Ragi Sri Darbar Sahib, Bhai Jasbir Singh  Pauntha Sahib Waley  recited the  `Shabad Kirtan’ and threw light on the life and teachings of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji and his great sacrifice.
Bhai Jasbir Singh of Pauntha Sahib said that Guru Ji’s most important contribution to the community is the step in the separate consolidation of Guru Granth Sahib as the sole and authentic description of the Sikhs. Besides the hymns of five Sikh Gurus it contains the hymns of Hindu and Muslim saints. It also contains the hymns of 15 Bhagats and 11 Bhatts.
Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta while speaking on the occasion  threw light on the life and history of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji who sacrificed his life against the tyranny and oppression of  the then ruler who used to put pressure to change his religion.
TS Wazir  while  addressing the Sangat stated how  Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji started the construction of Sri Harmandir Sahib and its foundation was laid by renowned Muslim Sufi Saint Mian Mir. He further stated that the authentication of the scripture of Guru Granth Sahib by Guru Arjan Dev ji himself, once and for all, ensured its separate identity and purity.
Surinder Singh,  Harjinder Singh Raina,  Jathedar Mohinder Singh,   Avtar Singh Khalsa, Surjit Singh,  Balbir Singh Sudan and  Baldev Singh also spoke on the occasion.
Members of Sant Gurbaksh Singh Danna International School  (SGSD Intl.) Manjit Singh, Balvinder Singh Social Activist, Dr Bhopinder Singh, Ravinderpal Kour and Pankaj Jamwal Principal SGSD were also present there.
Sant Tejwant Singh Ji Dera Mukhi Sant Pura Dana Nanak Nagar, Jammu and organising committee presented  Siropa to the Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta.
Meanwhile, Minister for Finance, Labour and Employment lauded the role played by the Sikh community in maintaining the communal harmony and brotherhood in the State.
The Minister was addressing the Sikh devotees at Gurdwara Shaheed Bunga Baghat, Barzulla during the martyrdom anniversary of 5th Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
The Minister appreciated the role of Sikh community in the development and progress of the State and said the role played by the Sikh community to maintain the communal harmony is laudable. He said the members of Sikh community worked shoulder to shoulder with the Muslim brethren during tough times and stick to the values and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
He urged people to follow Guru Arjan Dev’s ideals of humanity, secularism and universal brotherhood, whose relevance had remained unwavering through the ages.
On the occasion, the members of Sikh community apprised Minister about various issues faced by them and sought Government intervention in resolving their issues.
