SGPC, SGPB organize ‘Gurmat Samagam’

JAMMU, Jan 29:  Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Amritsar, State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board  (SGPB) J&K and District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) Jammu today organised a  religious function ( Gurmat Samagam) at Gandhinagar Gurdwara in the memory of great scholar and reformer, Jathedar Akali Kour Singh Ji.
This grand religious programme was jointly organised with the support of Management Committees of various Gurdwaras of Jammu  at Gurdwara  Baba Fateh Singh Ji, Gandhinagar.  The members of various Sikh organizations  and devotees attended the programme.
Head Granthi of  Sri Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) Giani Jagtar Singh, Dr Roop Singh- secretary  SGPC (Asr), Harbhajan Singh Manawa secretary Dharam Parchar SGPC (Asr), while addressing large gathering disclosed that Jathedar Akali Kour Singh ji was born in the house of S Maha Singh  and Sardarni Karam Kour at village Paddhar, Chakkar in Muzaffrabad (PoK). The ancestors of Alkali Kour Singh were  deeply involved with Guru Teg Bahadur Ji at the time of prosecution by the Mughals.
They further revealed that   Jathedar Akali Kour Singh  successfully created alphabetical index of Guru Granth Sahib during 1907-1920 and was prominent member of the sub-committee framed by SGPC Amritsar for completion of Sikh Rehat Maryada  during 1931-32. Akali Kour Singh dedicated his entire life to spread the message of Guru Granth Sahib  not only in J&K but also in Punjab  and other parts of India and Afghanistan. Boarding schools and libraries were also opened for the children, specially from the poor sections with his initiatives during that period.
Ragi Jathas from various parts of the country  recited `Gurvani Path’.  T S Wazir Chairman, SGPB;  DGPC Jammu member  Avtar  Singh Khalsa and other senior community leaders  Surinder Singh advocate, Mohinder Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Harjinder Singh Raina, Jagjit Singh and Janak Singh Sodhi    also spoke on the occasion.
