JAMMU, May 15: Seven students of a private school were hospitalized today after they complained of drowsiness and dehydration.
According to the reports, at least seven students of the primary wing of a private school located in Janipur area simultaneously complained today of drowsiness and dehydration while attending the class. They were immediately rushed to Government Hospital, Sarwal, from where they were later referred to Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital, Jammu.
Out of the seven children, five were identified as Mishi Khan daughter of Wasim Khan, Nyasa Raina daughter of Makhan Lal, Muskan daughter of Rakesh Kumar, Komal Gupta daughter of Sushil Gupta and Akriti Gupta daughter of Naresh Kumar while identification of two others could not be ascertained.
According to Dr Rekha Haresh, Head, Pediatrics Department, SMGS Hospital, all the children except two were stable when they reached the hospital. She said out of the seven children two were complaining of drowsiness along with dehydration while five others were complaining of minor dehydration due to heat exhaustion and excessive precipitation.
She said that two children who were suffering from drowsiness and dehydration were given fluid through drip sets while other children were administered medicines orally and now all of them were all right and will be discharged tomorrow. “There is nothing serious; they were just suffering from heat exhaustion most probably due to excessive precipitation and non-consuming of oral fluids. Moreover, some of the children have not taken their breakfast, which may also be one of the reasons of drowsiness”, she added.
The concerned police had taken cognizance of the matter. Quoting the victim children, police said that they were attending their regular class on the third floor of the building of the school and when they feel drowsiness they told their teacher, who informed the school authorities and they were then shifted to hospital. “There was no power in the school at that time and no fan was running”, the students told police in their statement.
