Settlement work in Leh to be taken up in next phase: Bukhari

LEH, Aug 26: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilita-tion, Syed Basharat Ahmed Bukhari today convened a meeting with all the district and sectoral officers to take first hand report of their problems and to access measures to be initiated by Revenue Department to keep departmental works going on without any hindrances.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Ladakh Affairs and Cooperative- Chhering Dorjey, MLA Leh- Nawang Rigzin Jora, MLA Nubra- Deldan Namgial, CEC LAHDC- Dr Sonam Dawa, Executive Councilors and ADC Leh- Mozes Kunzang.
Addressing the meeting, Bukhari said that settlement work will be taken up on top priority in Leh district in the next phase for which he directed ADC Leh to submit a list of all those villages and areas that don’t have any record.
To curb land grabbing, Bukhari said that any land allotment has to be counter signed by Tehsilder to get it approved by Council and instructed to start a grievance cell headed by ADC Leh and said that the cases should be disposed-off within 15 days. He also directed ADC to prepare an itinerary to ensure visit to every village within four months to take stock of all the developmental activities.
The Minister urged the officers to maintain the basic essence of their work culture with a vision to flourish Ladakh in all aspects of development. He assured all support to address the problems and concerns of Hill Council but urged them to follow up the cases at their level.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Leh Nawang Rigzin Jora stressed that Hill Council shall assert authority in keeping a vigil on land grabbing issues. He said that outsourcing may not prove viable for land settlement in Ladakh given its huge scattered area and proposed the Minister to engage local staff to undertake settlement works.
Deldan Namgial, MLA Nubra demanded posting of SDM Nubra and early execution of settlement in Tyakshi. The Minister ensured to post SDM for Nubra and gave direction to ADC to immediately send required number of people to start settlement work.
CEC, Dr Dawa raised the issues of clearing liabilities under SDRF, land acquisition by army and airforce and land encroachment by Himachal residents in Serchu area. He urged the Minister to take up these cases strongly with State Government and fill up all the vacant posts in Revenue Department at the earliest to ensure efficient working of the department.
