Service to humanity foremost responsibility of Govt: Altaf

KANGAN, Jan 29: Describing present era of Jammu and Kashmir a golden period of development and prosperity, the Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology, Mian Altaf Ahmad said that to provide basic amenities including road network, adequate water and power supply, better educational and health facilities, irrigation facility at their door step has been prioritized by the present Government to transform the socio-economic conditions of the people especially of those living in far flung and hither-to neglected areas.
Addressing a gathering at Kangan, Altaf said that providing basic amenities to people and improving their socio-economic profile is foremost responsibility of every Government and the present Government is making every effort for equitable and sustained development of all the three regions of the State.
Referring to the developmental scenario of Kangan Constituency, the Minister said that during last five years alround development of rural areas has been given focused attention and State has witnessed unprecedented development.
The Minister said that Kangan Constituency is being developed as model village besides strengthening tourism infrastructure in the area which has huge tourism potential to give fillip to the tourism activities in this world famous destination. He said that Sonamarg-Zojila tunnel on completion would attract tourist influx, thus providing much required employment opportunities.
Earlier, Mian Altaf laid foundation stone of Kangan Degree College coming up at Rs 8.24 lakh. He said that on completion, the college would provide higher education facility to local students at their door steps.
The Minister also laid foundation stone of 70 bedded Maternity-cum-Child Healthcare Hospital in Kangan coming up at Rs. 27.55 crore out of which Rs. 4.25 crore  have been expended so far.
Mian Altaf hoped that on the completion of hospital the people of the area would receive best maternity and child care health facilities and they shall have not to move to other towns and city hospitals.
