Separatists protest against rape, murder of girl

SRINAGAR, Apr 11: Separatist Hurriyat Conference today condemned the ongoing protest in favour of the accused in Asifa rape and murder case in Kathua.
A joint press conference of separatist leaders was held at Abi Guzar here today in which JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik addressed the media persons while Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq addressed telephonically as they were placed under house arrest.
They said that the innocent Asifa’s rape and brutal murder and shameless protest by some Jammu people in favour of her murderers are heinous and inhuman. “A kid was kidnapped, starved, raped and then killed by savages and disgracefully some people in Jammu are trying to give this heinous crime a religious colour and save murderers and rapists which is utmost shameful,” they said
The leaders said that ironically, rulers to prolong their rule are also abetting this shameful bunch of people and are communalizing situation in Jammu region and trying to inflict harm to Muslims in Jammu. “Kashmiris will never accept any such thing against Jammu Muslims and will resist all such wicked and communal moves,” they warned
After the press conference, separatists and many lawyers and people from all walks of life led by Yasin Malik, displaying placards depicting photographs of innocent Asifa and demanding justice for her and raising slogans against brutal killings across the valley marched towards the Lal Chowk but soon police and forces swung into action, dispersed them and arrested many leaders including Yasin Malik.
