Seminar on Impact of Arabic held at BGSBU

JAMMU, Apr 12: Department of Arabic in association with J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages (JKAACL) organized a one-day seminar on impact of Arabic on regional languages of Peer Panchaal.
Prof M Asghar, Dean of students, Prof GH Dar, Dean of School of Biosciences, Mohammed Ishaq, Registrar, Prof Shabir Shah, Principal, Government PG College Rajouri and Prof Shakeel Raina, Principal, GDC Thanna Mandi, jointly chaired the first session whereas Nissar Rahi, Raja Nazar Bonayari, Ameen Qamar, Dr Rafiq Anjum and Dr Shams Kamal Anjum jointly chaired the 2nd session of the seminar.
In his welcome address, Dr Shams Kamal Anjum, Head, Department of Arabic, highlighted the importance of regional languages. He explained the impact of socio- cultural, economic and political environments on the development of a language.
In the 1st technical session, Dr Layqat Nayyer, Gulshan Rashid, Dr Manzar Alam, Nissar Rahi and Dr Rafiq Anjum presented their thoughts on origin and development of Urdu, Kashmiri, Arabic, Pahari and Gogri languages, respectively.
In the 2nd technical session, Qazi Nissar Ahmed (JMI), Dr Mohd Azam Arshad Bhat, Dr Rumina Rashid, Dr Shams Kamal Anjum and Dr Aqeela presented their research papers on impact of Arabic on Pahari , Gogri , Kashmiri, English and Urdu languages, respectively.
Prof Shabir Shah in his address highlighted the need for extensive research on the impact of Arabic on regional languages whereas Prof Shakeel Raina emphasized on the need of translating IT terminologies into regional languages for promoting scientific temperament at gross root level.
Prof GH Dar spoke on the importance of preserving rich cultural heritage for future generation while Raja Nazarbonayari and Amin Qamar highlighted the linguistic technicalities of Pahari and Gogri languages, respectively.
Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr Mohd Azam whereas vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Laqayat Nayyer.
