SCPs for Srinagar, Jammu approved for participation in Smart City Competition

JAMMU, Mar, 27: The State Level High Power Steering Committee (SLHPSC) headed by Chief Secretary, B R Sharma today approved the Smart City Proposals (SCPs) of Srinagar and Jammu cities for submission to the Union Ministry of Urban Development for participation in stage-II (round three) of the Smart City Competition.
Following the initial approval of SCPs for the twin capital cities in the month of December by the SLHPSC, the Union Ministry of Urban Development communicated a revised timeline for submission of the approved SCPs and accordingly extended it to March 2017.
The extended period was utilized to further refine and improve the proposals based on citizen aspirations, expert opinion/recommendations and the workshops/national seminars conducted by the Union and the State Governments between January 2017 and March 2017.
Considering the vulnerability of the cities to multiple hazards/disasters like floods and earthquakes, risk preparedness and risk response has received special focus in the SCPs along with Urban Mobility for Traffic & Pedestrians, Solid & Liquid Waste Disposal, Scientific Management of Water Bodies and Core Area Development.
Financial Commissioner, Planning Development & Monitoring Department, B B Vyas, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, Hirdesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan and other senior officers attended the meeting.
