Science Academies Lecture workshop on ‘Algebra & Geometry’ begins at CUJ

JAMMU, Mar 24:  The Department of Mathematics, Central University of Jammu, is  organizing a two day Science Academies’ Lecture workshop on “Algebra and Geometry” from today.
Prof  Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, inaugurated the workshop and emphasized on conducting these types of events  to strengthen the scientific base of students.
The guest of honour for this workshop was Prof  Kapil Hari Paranjape, IISER Mohali, recipient of Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award, J C  Bose Fellow and Fellow of all the three Science Academies of India. He emphasized on understanding of basics of Mathematics rather than methods, since the concepts helps one to develop new methods in the theory,  which are then applied in various disciplines.
Prof  Devanand, Dean School of Basic and Applied Sciences,  stressed upon the development of Mathematics.
The other speakers of the workshop were Prof  Maneesh Thakur from ISI Delhi, Prof  Dinesh Khurana from Panjab University, Chandigarh and Dr  Chanchal Kumar from IISER Mohali.
Prof  S  Khosa, Head, Department of Mathematics, CUJ,   presented a formal welcome address.
The aim of this workshop is to expose the participants from fundamentals to the frontier of research in Mathematics and is devoted to the basics as well as advanced topics in Algebra and Geometry. The main topics,  which shall be covered in this workshop,  are Elliptic Curves, Groups and Symmetries, Combinatorics, Arithmetic functions and their applications, Rings and its applications as they have significant applications in Science. Around 150 participants including College teachers, research scholars, PG and UG students from various educational institutions of the State are participating  in this workshop.
Dr  Pavinder Singh, who is the Workshop Co-ordinator of this workshop, presented a formal vote of thanks.
