SC directive to CS on posting of officer

JAMMU, Sept 23: Supreme Court has directed the Chief Secretary of J&K to ascertain whether Mohammad Mehraj-ud-Din Khan can be accommodated on the posts of Secretary Tourism and Secretary Food and Supplies, which would be available by the end of current month.
After hearing Advocate Keshav Thakur for Mohammad Mehraj-ud-Din Khan and counsel for the J&K Government, Supreme Court Bench comprising Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice R Banumathi observed, “in pursuance to earlier order, the Chief Secretary has made available the vacancy position with regard to the posting of KAS officers”.
“Mohammad Mehraj-ud-Din Khan, who is present before us, submits that two vacancies in the post of Secretary Tourism and Secretary Food and Supply would be available by the end of this month”, the SC Bench observed and directed the Chief Secretary to ascertain whether the respondent can be accommodated in one of these posts.
Earlier, it was submitted that Mohammad Mehraj-ud-Din Khan has been posted as Member, J&K Special Tribunal against an available vacancy.
“There are several other vacancies available and this is actually a punishment given to him”, the counsel for the officer submitted, adding “the respondent is an engineer and is not conversant with the matters of Special Tribunal”.
