SRINAGAR, June 27: Police today foiled the demonstration of All Jammu and Kashmir Saakshar Bharat Mission Association (AJKSBMA) and detained scores of its members who were seeking release of withheld salaries and also demanding fulfillment of their other demands.
The protesters who assembled here in press enclave were protesting against the Government for failing to release their wages from past two years. They were chanting slogans against the authorities and demanding release of their wages at earliest.
“Despite working with dedication, the authorities seem reluctant to pay monthly wages to the employees working under SBM. We have not been given wages from past two years, which forced us to stage protest against the authorities,” they said.
The protesting employees said that they were pinning hope on the newly formed dispensation in the State but unfortunately their sufferings didn’t end in this regime as well. They said that they went from pillar to post for the redressal of their genuine grievances but nothing has been done in this regard.
“We appeal Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and other higher ups to intervene into the matter and redress genuine grievances at earliest,” the protesting employees said. The employees later tried to march towards the commercial hub Lal Chowk but police intercepted the protesters and detained scores of its members.
