JAMMU, Apr 25: To project their demands, the Saakshar Bharat Mission (SBM) employees held protest here today.
Large number of preraks, block co-ordinators and district co-ordinators working under SBM employees assembled near Press Club Jammu and raised slogans in favour of their demands.
The protesting employees were demanding clear cut job policy, release of wages pending for the last 3 to 4 years and hike in honorarium.
While speaking, State President, All Jammu and Kashmir SBM Employees Forum said that the Mission was launched in the year 2009 by the Prime Minister across the country including J&K and the said scheme was extended by the Government of India upto September 2017.
“We are working on the meager amount of Rs 2000 per month, which is still liability on the State Government. The wages per month is not sufficient according to the Labour Law (Minimum Wages Act)”, he added.
He stated that for the past four years they are serving the department by various means like academic support to schools, Aadhar duty, election duty and CAPD duty, but the Government is not paying heed towards their pending issues.
The protesters urged the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Education Minister Altaf Bukhari to show sympathy towards SBM employees and redress their demands at the earliest.
“If our demands are not fulfilled a mass protest will be held in Jammu and Srinagar and for any untoward incident, the Government will be responsible”, they warned.
