Sat reviews progress of JDA projects

JAMMU, May 12: Minister for Housing Urban Development Sat Sharma today exhorted upon the Government functionaries to speed up the pace of progress on vital projects for providing early benefits to the people.
The Minister was speaking at the maiden meeting chaired by him here to review physical and financial achievements registered by JDA on mega projects including multi-tier parking at General Bus Stand, development of River Tawi Front, Habitat Centre, construction of multi tier residential flats at Muthi, construction of houses for economical weaker sections, construction of night shelter and women hostel at Boria Market and others.
The meeting was attended by Financial Commissioner, Housing and Urban Development Department Krishan Ballabh Agarwal, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Kumar Rajeev Ranjan, Deputy Commissioner Samba, Rajinder Singh Tara, Managing Director J&K Housing Board, Vice-Chairman Jammu Development Authority, Rajesh Kumar Shavan, Joint Director H&UDD, ADC Samba besides other senior officers of concerned departments.
While reviewing the status of modernization of General Bus Stand, the Minister was informed that the construction work on all four zones, sub structure, super structure of the complex is in progress on which Rs 56.95 crore have been spent till April 2018. The construction work of the complex is expected to be completed by April 2019.
The Minister was further informed that the tenders have already been floated for the constructions on River Tawi Front project (1.5 Km stretch from Bikram Chowk to 4th Tawi bridge), while construction work on night shelter at Boria market is in full swing and will be completed in July this year.
Construction works on multi-flats, Phase-I, construction of commercial complex cum shopping mall at Muthi  and development of park at lower Roop Nagar are also in progress, the meeting was told.
The Minister directed the concerned agencies to expedite the construction of EWS houses, flats at Muthi, Udheywala, Nagrota and Majeen taken up under PMAY (urban) Mission.
Directing for early construction of shelter for urban homeless, the Minister said that it would go a long way in addressing the housing needs of urban homeless. He further directed to constitute a committee comprising officers of JDA, JMC, Housing Board and district administration to work out the modalities for rehabilitation of people to be removed from B.C Road.
Emphasizing close co-ordination among different executing agencies to fast pace   the flagship programs, the Minister asked the officers to hold regular meetings to monitor the implementation of schemes on the ground. He laid stress on maintaining financial discipline by utilizing funds in appropriate manner. The Minister also reviewed the status of JDA land in Samba and asked for its fencing.
Later, the Minister accompanied by MLA, Rajesh Gupta visited the construction site of multi-storeyed parking at Bus Stand Jammu and took stock of the status of the work.
