Daman Diu, Rajasthan, Chandigarh emerge winners on Day-1

JAMMU, Dec 20: The 64th National School Games Cricket championship under-19 for boys commenced today at KC Sports Club Cricket Ground, here.
The championship was inaugurated by Secretary Youth Services & Sports and Information, Sarmad Hafeez in an impressive, well attended and colourful function.
The tournament is being organized by the Directorate of Youth Services & Sports under the aegis of School Games Federation of India.
The Championship is being held under the overall supervision of Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, Director General Youth Services and Sports, J&K.
DG Sports while welcoming the players expressed that the Department will leave no stone unturned to conduct the tournament in smooth and successful manner.
He urged upon the Umpires to be honest in decision making and leave no room for complaints.
He said that the players have been lodged in hygienic places and quality food is being provided to them.
“462 players are participating in the tournament. 5 standard Cricket grounds have been arranged for the conduct of the tournament.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary YS&S expressed his happiness for overwhelming participation of 29 teams from all over the country in the games. He said sports play a critical role in personality development and in health and career as well.
He advised the players to play in the true spirit of the game. He assured that every effort will be made to ensure that the players, as well as the managers and coaches are comfortable during their stay in Jammu.
He said such events provide best opportunity to the youth from across the country to interact with each other and know about varied cultures.
Bashir Ahmad, Joint Director, YS&S Kashmir, Madan Lal, Joint Director, YS&S Jammu, Arjun Chowdhary, Managing Director KC Sports Club, Principal, K.C. Public School, Observer SGFI, District Youth Services & Sports Officers of the Department and Managers/ Coaches of all the teams were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Ten matches were played during the day. Rajasthan prevailed over IPSC by 8 wickets, Uttrakhand thrashed Dadar-Nagar by 9 wickets, NVS drubbed CBSE by 6 wickets, Daman Diu trounced DAV by 6 wickets and Chandigarh got the better of host Jammu and Kashmir by a narrow margin of 9 runs.
