SINGAPORE:   India’s Sania Mirza and Switzerland’s Martina Hingis made their way to semi-finals of the WTA defeating Taiwanese pair Hao-Ching Chan and Yung Jan here today.

The Indo-Swiss pair beat Taiwanese pair 7-6 (12-10) 7-5. The duo will take against the winner of the match between top seeds Caroline Garcia-Kristina Mladenovic and Bethanie Mattek-Sands- Lucie Safarova.

In the first two sets both teams fought hard and held their service till they reached 5 games all. But in the 11th game of the first set the Indo-Swiss were broken. In the very next game they took the first set into a tie-breaker.

The tie-breaker was fought bravely as Sania and Hingis saved three set points. However, after dropping couple of set points they won the set.

The second set continued till the 10th game after which Sania-Hingis secured a crucial break and then held their serve to book a place in the last four. (AGENCIES)
