Samoon reviews NFSM, NMEAT schemes

JAMMU, Dec 19: Commissioner cum Secretary,  Agriculture Production, Department Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon today asked the officers of Agriculture Department to further gear up the machinery and extension network of the Department so that the benefits of the scheme reach the end users well in time.
Dr Samoon while reviewing the centrally sponsored schemes of National Food Security Mission (NFSM) on Wheat, Rice, Coarse Cereals and Pulses and National Mission on Agriculture  Extension and Technology (NMEAT) here today also asked the officers to streamline the mechanism for Kharif 2015 season.
The meeting was attended by Director Agriculture, Jammu, Dr S S Jamwal and Director SAMETI, Jammu, Dr K S Rissam besides other senior officers of the Department.
Dr Samoon stressed on preparation of action plans well in advance for repositioning of critical inputs like seeds and fertilizers. He urged the DAJ who is also the Nodal Officer for NFSM to prepare a strategy for ensuring repositioning of wheat seed for 2015 season in Leh and Kargil districts also and enhance the seed replacement rate and Varital Replacement Rate with quality seed by doubling the targets of open pollinate and hybrid seeds.
Director Agriculture Jammu, Dr Jamwal gave a power point presentation on the various components of the scheme being implemented in the State. He said NFSM wheat and rice is being implemented in eight districts, NFSM cereals (Maize) in seven districts and NFSM Pulses in all districts of the State with a total financial out lay of 26.05 crores. Under the scheme 63000 qtls of High Yielding Variety of seed of wheat crop was distributed among farmers on subsidized rates during the current rabi season as against the 53000 quintals in last year.
