REASI, Jan 28: Salal Power Station of NHPC Limited organised one day ‘Skill Development Training Program for farmers with focus on promotion of organic and less water farming’ at DC Office here today.
District Development Commissioner Reasi, Ravinder Kumar, was the chief guest who inaugurated the program by lighting the traditional lamp in association with A G Ansari, General Manager, Salal Power Station, M G Ghai, Chief Engineer (Civil), NHPC Limited, J P Sharma, Director, SKUAST, Babu Ram, ADC, Reasi and P L Bhat, Chief Agricultural Officer, Reasi. 55 farmers from various villages of District Reasi attended the Program.
Speaking on the occasion, General Manager Salal Power Station welcomed the chief guest and others present during the program and said that organic farming has become need of the hour as it does not only contribute to the health of human beings but also contributes to the health and well being of the soils, plants, animals and the earth. Organic farming provides chemical free, nutrious food items for humans.
DDC Ravinder Kumar expressed happiness to have team of scientists from SKUAST at Reasi itself and advised the farmers to listen patiently to the team members from SKUAST and clear their doubts with respect to organic farming.
It is pertinent to mention that a team of six scientists led by J P Sharma, Director SKAUST, took the sessions and interacted with the farmers.  All the sessions remained interactive throughout.
A similar program would be organised at Darmari, Reasi, for farmers on January 29. Thereafter, a visit of these farmers shall be arranged for SKUAST, Jammu, to gain practical experience of less water and organic farming.
