Sahitya Akademi, Dogri Sanstha organize three literary programmes

JAMMU, Mar 5: Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi and Dogri Sanstha jointly organized a series of three literary programmes including a symposium on Dogri Yuva Lekhan, ‘People and Books’ and Kavi -Sandhi at KL Sehgal hall here today.
The inaugural session of symposium on Dogri literature by young writers was presided over by prominent Hindi poet and former secretary of JKAACL, Ramesh Mehta while Prof Lalit Magotra convenor (Dogri), Sahitya Akademi, and Dr Devendra Kumar Devesh, Officer on Special Duty, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi were also present in the presidium.
Welcoming the participants, Dr Devesh gave a resume of activities undertaken by Sahitya Akademi for the promotion of Dogri language and literature. Prof Magotra explained about the significance of such symposia which provide opportunity to evaluate the quality of literature.
Chhatrapal, president, Dogri Sanstha and celebrated short story writer presented keynote address. Dr Devesh and Prof Magotra presented Sahitya Akademi Award 2016 to Chhatrapal in the inaugural session who could not attend the Akademi Award presentation event held on 22 Feb at New Delhi.
In the paper reading session, Surjit Hosh presented paper on Dogri poetry and Prof Shivdev Manhas presented paper Dogri short stories. Yashpal Nirmal read out his paper on ‘Social media and Youth’s literature in Dogri. The session was presided over by Prof Shashi Pathania, former HoD, Dogri Department, Jammu University.
The second programme of the day ‘Person and Books’  was focused on Dr Pradeep K Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Science and Technology Jammu and a renowned poet, who spoke about his choicest books that left an indelible mark on his mind and contributed to his development as a poet.
In the third programme –‘Kavi Sandhi’, prominent Dogri poet, Bishan Singh Dardi recited his poetry and interacted with the audience. A large number of writers, poets and intellectuals were present in the day-long programmes.
