JAMMU, Oct 31: Civic Safaikaramchari Union today highlighted their demands including fill the vacant posts of Safaikaramcharis without any delay.
Addressing a press conference here today, Rinku Gill, president, Civic Safaikaramchari Union, said in almost 15 wards, which were outsourced by the JMC, 500 safaikaramcharis have been working for last two years but as per the agreement made with the JMC, contractors are not providing sweeping tools to the safaikaramcharis.
“Moreover, as per the agreement, the Contractor had to give provident fund to the safaikaramcharis and they were supposed to take their accumulated money under the provident funds after every six months but from past two years the safaikaramcharis have not got even a single rupee from their provident funds”, Gill alleged.
He said the department is facing shortage of labour due to which serving safaikaramcharis are overburdened. “Though about three months ago, 600 posts for safaikaramcharis were advertised and thousands of candidates applied for the job yet no progress has been made for making appointments”, he added.
Gill requested the JMC Commissioner to fill the vacancies of safaikaramcharis without any delay and not to give any new tender to the contractor till safaikaramcharis get their money of provident fund.
