Sadhotra directs for early restoration of protection bunds along Tawi

Minister for Planning, Ajay Sadhotra taking stock of damaged bunds along river Tawi on Tuesday.

JAMMU, Aug 27:  Minister for Planning, Development and Labour & Employment Ajay Sadhotra has directed Flood Control Department to start the restoration work of the damaged protection bunds along River Tawi in Marh block.
Leading a team of  I&FC officers, including Chief engineer of the department, the minister visited Sumpuran Kullian, Sardara Chak, Lachhman Pur, Top Manasa, Makwal, Malka Chak, Gandu Chak Sohanjana, Nandpur, Phallianmadal, and various other villages and assessed the damages caused to the agriculture land due to breaches of protection walls along  Niki and Badi Tawi .
The recent floods have washed away large tracts of agriculture and pasture land in the area due to the damages caused   to the protection bunds along the two tributaries of River Tawi.
The Minister visited each site of the damage for on the spot assessment of the damages caused in these areas due to recent rains and floods. He directed the concerned officers to ensure correct and accurate assessment of the damage so that the affected could be compensated accordingly. He also directed the concerned department to ensure supply of water for irrigation so that the farmers do not face any problem on  this account  .
He also exhorted upon the people to extend cooperation to the Government agencies in making accurate assessment of damages to private and public assets. .
He said that the Coalition Government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has given first priority to restoration of services and repair of public assets, besides rehabilitation of the flood affected people.
He said that Chief Minister would be himself monitoring the entire exercise to ensure that none of the affected areas are left out in the restoration process.
The Minister was informed that the paddy crops in these border villages have suffered huge loss due to rise in the water level of Tawi. He asked the officers to assess the losses to the crops in these areas at the earliest for extending timely relief to farmers.
