Rs 2 lakh looted from J&K Bank branch in Central Kashmir

SRINAGAR: An amount of Rs 2 lakh was looted from the vault of Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch in Central Kashmir district of Budgam.

Official sources said here this evening that the unidentified robbers broke into the J&K Bank branch at Mirgund in Budgam during the intervening night February 18 and 19. They said as there was no security guard at the bank, the robbers opened the vault and decamped with Rs 2 lakh.

A senior police officer said it was normal case of robbery. “Police have registered a case initiated investigation to nab the accused responsible for the robbery,” he added.

This was the first such incident in the central Kashmir after demonetisation. However, gunmen looted cash from about six banks in South Kashmir. (AGENCIES)
