Roller Skating Camp concludes

LEH, May 21: Fortnight long Roller Skating Camp organized by Ladakh Women Ice Hockey Foundation (LWIHF) in collaboration with Lamdon Model Senior Secondary School (LMSSS) for under-18 years girls concluded with an impressive function here today.
As many as 21 girls attended the camp organized in the memory of LAHDC late CEC Dr.Sonam Dawa who was one of the supporter in promoting the women Ice Hockey tournament.
Executive Councillor for Youth Services and Sports, Gyal P. Wangyal was chief guest during valedictory function.
On the occasion roller skating race exhibition among the participants divided into different groups was organized and the participants were felicitated with certificates and mementoes.
Appreciating the LWIHF for their efforts in promoting Ice Hockey sport in Ladakh, Gyal said lack of infrastructure is hindrance in practicing Ice Hockey round the year in Ladakh having very short season in winter but inline roller skate similar to Ice skating will help the players to improve their talent. He added that organising such camps for girls supports the Prime Minister Nardendra Modi’s slogan “Beti Bacho Beti Paldo” thereby women empowerment.
Nominated Councillor Rinchen Lhamo appreciating LWIHF for such camp said that girls can excel in all sports if provided ample opportunities.
LMSSS Principal Eshey Tundup appreciated LWIHF for making all arrangement to impart basic training to girls and added that sports activities keep the children busy and away from bad habits.
Earlier, presenting the welcome speech LWIHF member Kunzes Angmo said that since its inception in 2015 LWIHF endeavours to promote Ice Hockey sports among girls so this camp organised to promote Ice hockey sport among girls and similar camps were also conducted in remote villages of Ladakh so that women can come forward to play Ice Hockey.
