RIK for simplifying election process for migrants

JAMMU, Jan 31:  A meeting of executive body of Roots in Kashmir (RIK) was held here today under the chairmanship of M.K.Koul chairman Political Affairs Committee.
Addressing the meeting, Mr Koul took serious note of insensitiveness of the State Government and Government of India vis a vis electoral rights of Displaced Kashmiri Pandits. Mr Koul said that State Government in connivance with State Election Commission has been and is creating impediments for the displaced community to stop the displaced people from using this right of franchising.
Mr Koul said that if the cumbersome process is not made easy then displaced people will have to rethink about their right to vote.
Speaking in the meeting Vir Saraf ( convenor) said that displaced people must be allowed to use ration card as an identity. M- forms must be done away with. The list of displaced people with Relief Commissioners office must be taken as the base list of voters.
Saraf warned that “if this process is not simplified we might be constrained to sit on indefinite dharna at Election Commission office”.
It was also decided that very soon a delegation of displaced people will meet State Election Commission and re-apprise him of the difficulties faced by the displaced people in the process of casting the vote.
Among other issues the members said that the election identity cards must be provided to all the eligible voters with out any delay & the date of revision of voter list must be extended.
