Rijiju reviews security in Kashmir, lauds troops

SRINAGAR, Oct 7: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju today reviewed security situation in Kashmir valley and lauded the security forces for their commendable role in curbing militancy in Kashmir and effectively dealing with the law and order.
Rijiju, who arrived here this morning on a two-day visit to Valley, was briefed about the security situation in Kashmir and the successes achieved by security forces this year against the militancy.
The Minister accompanied by Special DG CRPF, S N Srivastava, and IG operations Kashmir Zulfiquar Hasan and local police officers, visited the headquarters of 116 Battalion CRPF.
DIG (Ops) CRPF Anantnag, Mohsin Shahedi, briefed the Minister and gave a power point presentation on security situation in Kashmir and achievements of security forces during last one year.
Rijiju was apprised about the security forces operation in which over 150 militants were killed. He was told that ‘Operation All Out’ launched earlier this year has broken the back of militancy. He was also given the detailed account of how the security forces are effectively dealing with law and order problems and have effectively brought them down.
The CRPF officer elaborated on the new challenges ahead and core issues of concern requiring intervention from the Ministry in dealing with the new challenges.
Rijiju later addressed a Sainik Sammelan of CRPF soldiers and lauded the efforts of CRPF in conducting numerous successful operations in the Valley in perfect coordination and synergy with police and Army and also maintaining a very difficult law and order situation in the face of grave provocation.
The Minister urged on the officers and men to continue the good work and bridge the gap with civilians created by unrest of 2016 by undertaking meaningful civic action programmes.
During the interaction, the soldiers raised few questions about the force and welfare related issues. The Minister assured to look into the grievances on priority.
Earlier, Rijiju was received by BSF Inspector General (IG), Kashmir Frontier, Sonali Mishra. After Guard of Honour,  the Minister was briefed about prevailing situation in Kashmir and also about the suicidal attack by militants on October 3, at BSF Campus Gogoland, (Humhama).
The Minister applauded the professionalism of BSF, who efficiently eliminated the three militants without causing any collateral damage and at the same time minimal damage was caused to BSF. A BSF officer was also killed in the attack.
Rijiju commended overall performance of BSF for effectively defending borders of India against Pakistan and Bangladesh and admired the legacy of the Force.
He also interacted with officers and subordinate officers at Frontier Headquarter. He met and appreciated the courage of brave Force personnel, who faced the militants and neutralized them.
