Swacchta Hi Sewa campaign only a farce

JAMMU, Sept 15: The indiscriminate dumping of garbage on one side of Valmiki Chowk in Gandhi Nagar area is posing serious threat to the health of the people and has proved Swacchta Hi Sewa campaign as a farce.

Huge quantity of garbage is being dumped on the roadside every day which is created lots of problems for the residents living around Valmiki Chowk of posh Gandhi Nagar area. The prevailing situation has turned the life of the people living in nearby area as hell as heaps of garbage emanates unbearable stentch and the Jammu Municipal Corporation is watching the situation as mute spectator.
“No one in the administration seems to be concerned about our problem”, people of the area said, adding “we brought the prevailing situation to the notice of JMC authorities a number of times with the request to stop dumping of garbage in the area but no action has been taken till date”.
The dumping on the roadside has also led to stray dog menace. “We don’t venture out after dusk due to the presence of large number of stray dogs,” a senior citizen said.
People have urged the district administration to intervene and instruct the officials in the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to prevent the dumping of garbage on the roadside in this area. They also warned of dire consequences, if the dumping of the garbage is not stopped forthwith.
