JAMMU, Mar 10: Hundreds of residents of Raipur- Domana once again protested at Bhalwal, here today against dumping of garbage in violation of waste management rules and also in violation of air pollution rules of Pollution Control Board.
These people of Kandi Belt have been protesting from last more than one month against the illegal move of Jammu Municipal Corporation to dump garbage at Bhalwal near Degree College Mishriwala.
The protesting people surrounded the dumping site and blocked Bhalwal road for several hours against dumping of garbage. They were raising slogans for right to live in a pollution free area.
In presence of SDM Jammu North & Tehsildar Bhalwal, large number of policemen had to face tough time for getting the reopened for the vehicular traffic.
Addressing the gathering, K D Singh, Chairman Kandi Belt Movement asked the Jammu Municipal Corporation to not dump garbage in Kot-Bhalwal area, a highly populated area of Jammu district, in violation of Solid Waste Management Rules. He warned that people of Kot-Bhalwal and adjoining villages would intensify the ongoing stir if the Govt fails to take notice of the people’s demand.
Many Sarpanches, social activists and residents of nearby villages took part in the protest against injustice with general public of Raipur Domana.
