JAMMU, May 29: The residents of Rajiv Nagar area held protest against Police Department and drug trafficking in their area.
Amid slogans, large number of residents assembled near Qasim Nagar Chowk and held protest. They blocked the vehicular movement.
Addressing the protestors, one of the residents Ashok Kumar takes a dig over working of the Police Department. He said that police is taking no action against the drug dealers, due to which the young boys are losing their lives.
Citing a recent example, Kumar said that a youth namely Rahil Kumar of Rajiv Nagar lost his life due to drugs and another youth of the same area is admitted in the emergency ward of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu.
Seeking strict action against the drug dealers, many residents had complained about the problem but police had taken no action in this regard, he said, adding that some policemen, instead of taking action against the drug dealers, were taking bribe from them and letting them continue their illegal activities.
Ex-Minister Raman Bhalla also reached the spot and expressed his sympathy with the bereaved family. He asked the senior officials of the Police Department to direct their officers to keep a hawk’s eye over the drug dealers and take strict action against them.
Another resident stated that the Police Department is encouraging the drug dealers by not taking action against them. He said the dealers are openly selling drugs in their area and there was no one to stop him.
“Younger generation is falling in the trap of drug dealers against whom police is taking no action, which reflects that drug mafia and police officials are having hand in glove”, he alleged.
After getting information, SP South, Shaazad Salaria and SDPO East, Chandan Kohli rushed to the spot and pacified the agitating residents by assuring them of strict action against the drug dealers’ operative in Rajiv Nagar area in particular and other areas in general.
On the assurance, the protesters dispersed and vehicular movement was restored.
