REASI, May 17: The residents of Arnas and adjoining areas today observed complete shutdown against the slow pace of work by General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) on Reasi-Mahore road via Arnas.
The locals said that in 2002 GREF assumed the charge of construction work on this road but still in 2017 it is incomplete. Only a few kilometers of road have been blacktopped since then.
The residents alleged that the condition of the road cause them severe inconvenience. They expressed resentment against GREF officials and demanded early completion of the road.
While speaking, Ex-Sarpanch Arnas Raman Kumar said that beside completion of road GREF organization also harassed the locals working in GREF. They had done no insurance of the workers and also cheated the poorer, he added.
“Few months back an employee namely Baldev Chand died in an accident while on duty but GREF officials marked him absent so as to not compensate the family members of the deceased”, Kumar stated.
The protesters also blocked Reasi-Mahore road for couple of hours.
Later, GREF officials reached the spot and assured the protesting people to highlight their grievance with the higher officials.
On the assurance, the locals dispersed and movement on the Reasi-Mahore road was restored.
