SAMBA, Jan 23: The residents of village Madoon held protest over water scarcity.
Large number of residents hailing from village Madoon held protest under the leadership of ex-panch Ramdhan.
Amid slogans against PHE Department, the protesters locked the tube well at village Madoon and later blocked the vehicular movement on the border road at main chowk Rajpura, leading to traffic snarls.
The residents alleged that they are facing problems due to non-availability of drinking water. “We met the officials of the concerned department several times, but they failed to pay heed to our issue, which forced us to come on roads to project our demand”, the protesters added.
They appealed to the concerned department to redress the drinking water issue at the earliest, otherwise they will go for agitation and for any untoward incident, the concerned department and the Government will be responsible.
After getting information, police team led by Incharge Rajpura police post rushed to the spot and assured the protestors that their issue will be taken up with the officials of the PHE Department for redressal.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed and the vehicular movement was restored.
