Reservation to IB villagers can’t be extended: Veeri

Jammu, Jan 9: Minister for Roads and Buildings and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri today informed the Upper House that 285 villages of Rajouri, Nowshera, Mendhar, Haveli, Kupwara and Akhnoor falling under the Actual Line of Control (ALC) are availing benefits as per the J&K Reservation Act, 2004 and Rules thereto.
Replying to a question by Ajatshatru Singh in the Upper House, the Minister said that it is a fact that the people residing on ALC as well as International Border of the state are equally affected by the firing from across the border and deserve special attention.
Veeri informed that the people living along ALC are availing benefits as provided in terms of J&K Reservation Act, 2004 and Rules there-under.   However, he said at present International Border does not come within the definition of ALC and hence the benefits of reservation as provided to residents of ALC are not being extended to them.
Responding to the supplementary questions by Dr BA Veeri, Surinder Chaudhary, Vibodh Gupta, Qaiser Jamsheed and Ramesh Arora, the Minister said that the government has submitted a DPR to the center for approval of funds for construction of permanent bunkers along ALC and International border.
Replying to a question of Showkat Gani the Minister for R&B and Parliamentary Affairs informed the house that 38 roads having a length of 122 Km have been macadamized under various programs in district Shopian during the past three years.
He said that 17.10 Km of road length of Shopian-Kulgam road, Keegam-Daramdora-Cheygund road, Vishru-Moshwar-Gatipora road and Imamsahib-Trenz-Turkawangam road were macadamized under State, District and NABARD sectors during 2013-14. He said appropriate steps would be taken for macadmization of left-over   roads in the district.
In reply to the supplementary question by Sajad Ahmad Kichloo, the Minister said that Government is committed to provide better road connectivity to all the areas of the state and there  would be no pick and chose in terms of macadmization  of roads. He said several new road projects have been taken up in Chenab valley, while many existing roads have been up-graded.
Replying to another question of Ghulam Nabi Monga Minister said that Government has prioritized the construction of bridges   under CRF in the State.
The Minister  said  that  construction work of  Jetty Bridge in Baramulla on  river Jhelum was awarded  to  JKPCC  in the year 2001-02.  He said the casting of well staining of pier wells/sinking of the bridge is nearing completion while pilling work of both abutments has also been completed.  He said so far the Government has released Rs.6.18 Crore to JKPCC for construction of the bridge.
The Minister said the   construction work of Jetty Bridge have been also prioritized under CRF and would be completed within set time frame.
