Representation to Dogri

For the second time in one week we are reminding the concerned in the Government that by not including a Dogri speaking scholar in the Central Committee of the Cultural Academy, it is giving an impression that it pursues policy of discrimination. Jammu region and especially the Dogra speaking segment of society express their resentment on deliberately sidelining Dogri representation in the Central Committee. It has warned of unhealthy consequences of this blatant discriminative treatment. Dogri is the second largest spoken language in the State. In a sense, Dogri has an edge over Urdu because Urdu is not the mother tongue of any group in the State yet it is given the status of State language. On the other hand, entire Jammu region speaks and understands Dogri as the mother tongue, of course with some minor variations in pronunciation and syntax. Urdu is the language of UP and Hyderabad, and it has been imposed on the State because of its association with the Muslims of India. That may be a fact but cannot be an argument to sideline the largest native spoken language of the State namely Dogri. We hope that reason will prevail with the concerned policy planners and Dogri will be given due recognition in the Central Committee.
