JAMMU, Nov 4: Shri Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha (SAKRS) today demanded the Government of J&K to declare gazetted holiday on September 23, the birth anniversary of late Maharaja Hari Singh and removal of toll tax at Lakhanpur.
Addressing a press conference today here at Rajput Sabha Bhawan, Dogra Hall, Jammu, president of the Sabha, Narayan Singh, said that since long Jammuites have been demanding that the State Government should declare gazetted holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh but the Government did not pay any heed to the sentiments of the people.
He said that State Government should immediately declare gazetted holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, as Maharaja cannot be equated with Rajas of other princely states of India. “Maharaja Hari Singh deserved to be honoured for his contributions to people of J&K irrespective of cast and creed and the best way of honouring him would be to declare gazetted holiday every year on his birth anniversary”, he asserted.
Regarding toll tax at Lakhanpur, Narayan Singh said that when Government of India has enforced GST in the State, there remains no justification to retain toll tax at Lakhanpur. On the behalf of the Sabha, he also expressed his support to bandh call given by Chamber of Traders Federation and supported by various organizations on November 6 for pressing the Government to remove toll tax at Lakhanpur.
