Rates of Municipal assets to be revised: Mayor

JAMMU, Feb 9: Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation Chander Mohan Gupta today chaired the meeting of Finance and Planning Standing Committee.
The meeting was attended by members of the Standing Committee namely Ashok Singh, Anil Kumar, Sunita Koul, Anil Masoon, Neena Gupta, Anita Sharma and Gourav Chopra.
Joint Commissioner (A) Pardeep Singh, Secretary Sunaina Sharma, Assistant Commissioner (R) Prem Singh, Chief Accounts Officer Joginder Sharma, Executive Engineer (T) Arun Gupta and others senior officers of JMC were also present.
Mayor directed the concerned authorities to speed up the revenue collection by all the wings of JMC. It was decided that rates of Municipal assets i.e. flats, shops, open spaces, garages, godowns will be revised.
Mayor also directed the concerned authorities to generate new sources of revenue so that JMC could work in a better way. He issued instructions to the Engineering Wing to start emergency nature of work up to Rs 1 lakh in the wards immediately.
He also directed the Executive Engineer (Electrical) to make proposal for installing LED hoarding sites in all the wards of JMC to make a beautiful look of Jammu city. He also issued instructions to impose penalties on encroachers who violate the norms of JMC.
He said that the revenue of Building Section is decreasing day by day and stressed upon the authorities to speed up the process for granting building permissions to the general public and again issued the instructions to the concerned that the cases pending for compounding shall be considered on priority basis so that the general public may not suffer.
The members also raised the issues that the online system should be in JMC for collection of revenue, door to door collection from the residential as well as commercial establishments needs to be improved, purchasing of more vehicles for lifting of garbage from the wards.
Mayor assured all the members that necessary steps will be taken for smooth functioning of the Corporation and speedy disposal of the grievances of the general public.
