Rape victim seeks justice

JAMMU, Apr 1: A young widow from Mendhar area in Poonch, who was allegedly raped by three persons close to a politician, has demanded justice claiming that Police was not initiating action against the accused.
Talking to media persons, here today, the victim, who was accompanied by some women activists, alleged that she was being forced by some influentials and Police to withdraw case against the accused. “So far I have approached State Women Commission, Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell, Human Rights Commission and other bodies but no action is being taken by the police who are now claiming that my case file has been lost,” she alleged. According to the victim, she was raped by three persons, identified as Tanzim Ahmed, Tariq Iqbal and Muzaffar at village Takia while she was on way to her home from Sub-District Hospital Mendhar on December 28 last. Even as she reported the matter to police on very next day, her medical examination was intentionally delayed by the investigating officers.
The victim claimed that the doctor, who conducted her medical examination, also tried to influence her to withdraw the case. She appealed the Director General of Police and women organizations to come forward for getting her justice.
