JAMMU, Aug 5: Rangyug today organized a Kathak Dance programme ‘Nritya Utsav: Celebrating the Spirit of Classical Dances’ at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu where Chaitanya Chowdhary, Vice- Chairman K C Public School was the guest of honour and Prof Lalit Magotra, Member Dogri Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi and a renowned literary personality presided over.
Dr Priya Dutta formally welcomed the guests of the programme. In her welcome address she emphasized on the aims and objectives of Rangyug and Nrityanjali. She said that the main objective to organize such programmes is to make the people aware of their rich heritage of classical music and dance forms. She told that for the first time the entry has been made through Donor Cards of denominations of rupees twenty each only, just to develop a sense of concern among the lovers of art, theatre, music and dance and to inculcate the habit among masses to watch the performances for aesthetical experience. The programme on Kathak was undertaken with the initiative of Rangyug with the students and artists of Nrityajali (An Institution for the promotion of Kathak Dance).
Paranth was performed during the entire programme by Dr Priya Dutta. Parshotam on PaKhawaj, Vijay Kumar on Tabla and Raj Kumar Behrupia on Harmonium and Vocal accompanied the performances of Kathak Dance in the programme. Make- up was done by Anupama Sharma. Deepak Kumar designed lights for the show whereas photography was done by Ms Radhika Bali.
Speaking on this occasion Sh. Chaitanya Chowdhary said that this kind of programmes are the back bome of our cultural heritage and need to be promoted equally by one and all. Chief guest Priya Sethi also spoke.
In his presidential address Prof Lalit Magotra appreciated the efforts made by Rangyug and Nrityanjali to revive the performing art forms of classical music and dances of India.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Raj Kumar Behrupia whereas Vote of Thanks was extended by Deepak Kumar.
