Rana visits rain-affected areas, seeks restoration measures on priority

NAGROTA, Aug 27: National Conference Provincial President and MLA Devender Singh Rana today visited flood affected areas in Nagrota Assembly Constituency and took stock of the damages caused to infrastructure, especially roads, and the various other utility services.
Accompanied by officers and engineers, Rana sought urgent restoration measures, especially in the road sector and also stressed the need for putting in place utility services like drinking water and power supply. He said these were the priority services, which are needed to be restored on war footing so that the smooth mobility is ensured and people are provided regulated water and power supply.
He also sought first-hand information from the residents with regard to damages caused to residential houses, live-stock and the crops and called for carrying out a preliminary survey so that some financial assistance is provided to the sufferers as interim relief ahead of the extent of damages assessed for compensation. He reiterated the need for having exigency plans in place to meet the exigencies and carrying out restoration measures based on the past experience.
The MLA also called for pumping out the inundated water from residential areas and carrying out safety audit of the government installations, especially the schools. He visited the Middle School Seetni and took stock of damages caused to the building.
He provided Rs 10 lakhs for Simblelehar – Sanarka Road, Rs 5 lakhs for Simblelehar – Nallah Road besides Rs 5 lakhs for various restoration works in the Jagti Panchayat. He also provided four transformers for restoration of electricity at Kameni Nallah Ward No 7, Tanda Moh. Khurshid, Baba Baloo Dev Sthan, Jagti and Chechi Mata Temple, Jagti costing Rs. 21 lakhs.
The MLA Nagrota took up- various issues telephonically with the District Development Commissioner Jammu, hoping that the problems confronted to the people would be redressed earnestly. He sought priority action in view of the ongoing monsoon and apprehension of rains in the coming days. He said several houses have suffered damages which call for immediate renovations to make these habitable. He also stressed the need for raising the bunds at Nallas damaged due to flash floods on war footing basis to avert eventualities having potential of threat to people and their properties.
Interacting with the people, Rana assured that all their issues will be taken up at appropriate level for immediate action. He said he will be personally coordinating and monitoring the restoration measures.
Hoping that the concerned Government departments and agencies will work in synergy to meet the exigencies in the constituency, he said that ultimate aim should be to provide respite to the population that has suffered due to incessant rains and flash floods.
