Rana for newer approaches to ensure sustainable irrigation

NAGROTA, Mar 13: National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana today called for newer and pragmatic approaches to ensure sustainable irrigation facilities for better and quality farm produce in Nagrota Assembly constituency.
Interacting with officers, during review and initiation of the revival, renovation and upgradation of Kupper Lift Irrigation Scheme in Pargalta Panchayat this afternoon, Rana, who is also MLA Nagrota, said the facility will go a long way to irrigate over 5,000 hecters land holdings in Kupper, as also peripheries, especially Bain and Bajalta.
The upgradation of the lift irrigation project will cost Rs 2.97 crores and the scheme on its completion will prove a boon for the farming community.
He urged the executing agency to focus on completing the scheme earnestly so that farmers can avail of the facility in a time bound manner. He, however, stressed the need for maintaining quality of the work and also called for effective monitoring.
Interacting with the people, assembled on the occasion, Rana said that credible irrigation projects won’t only enhance productivity but also help in lengthening the growing season thus minimizing the pressure on farming community. He advised the farmers to benefit from latest farm technology and have best dividends of their hard toil in the fields.
The MLA hoped that synergised efforts of the executing agencies and people will help in generating an atmosphere wherein the timely execution of various developmental projects and programmes become possible. While the people were supportive of welfare schemes in the constituency, the officers too must come forward to mitigate their difficulties, he added.
He  underscored the important role of agriculture, animal and sheep husbandry besides rural development department, saying the constituency being rural-oriented calls for a holistic approach with regard to prioritised implementation of various schemes and projects.
Dwelling upon the overall initiatives being taken for improving the quality of life of the people, Rana hoped that the concerned departments will ensure proper functioning of various utility services, especially power and drinking water, as the summer season has almost set in.
On the occasion, the people of the area raised several issues with regard to basic development as per local needs. He assured them that these issues would be vigorously taken up and pursued with the concerned departments for early redressal. He said he has been knocking every door to have best within the available resources for Nagrota Assembly constituency.
