UDHAMPUR, Sept 27: Demanding that the local workers should be engaged by the construction companies engaged in four-laning of National Highway and Chenani-Nashri tunnel, National Highway Mazdoor Union Udhampur today held a strong demonstration, here today.
The demonstration cum rally, led by senior Congress leader Syed Shakil Shah, took off from Shah Market and culminated at the same point after passing through Town Hall, City Light Cinema Chowk, Dabbar Chowk, Gole Market, Mukherjee Bazar, Ramnagar Chowk, Court Road, and Slathia Chowk.
While addressing the gathering, Shakil Shah alleged that the construction companies, engaged in widening of the National Highway and Chenani-Nashri tunnel were not hiring the local workers but importing the labourers from outside the State. He threatened to intensify agitation if the construction companies do not engage local workers as per the norms.
