Raise awareness to revive cooperative culture: Dorjay

SRINAGAR, Oct 20: Minister for Cooperatives, Chering Dorjay today stressed on the need of raising awareness among masses for revival of cooperative culture in the State.
Mr. Dorjay said this during National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) meeting, here at the Civil Secretariat.
“It seems the youth in our State are unaware about the concept of cooperative movement,” the Minister said.
Stressing on the need for raising awareness among masses about the sector, the Minister asked NCDC Managing Director, Vasudha Mishra for assistance to make revival a success.
Attributing turmoil as one of the main reasons for stunted growth of cooperative sector in Kashmir, the Minister said Chief Minister is keen for its revival. “We have made necessary changes in our department to ensure that the CM’s vision for a comprehensive cooperative movement is fulfilled”, he said.
During the meeting, NCDC agreed to provide ways and means advances to already sanctioned Integrated Cooperative Development Projects (ICDPs) for Baramulla and Doda if State Government clears their overdue amount.
It was also agreed that cooperative department would approach Regional Institute of Cooperatives, Chandigarh for preparing detailed project reports for new ICDPs for Leh and Kargil.
JAKFED was also asked to prepare a detailed project to avail assistance from NCDC.
During the meeting, a power point presentation was given by the Registrar, Cooperative Department, Peerzada Mushtaq Ahmad, highlighting achievements and ongoing work undertaken by the cooperative sector in the State.
The meeting was attended by Regional Director, NCDC, Chandigarh, J. S. Chowdhary, Secretary Cooperatives, Hilal Ahmad Parray, Special Secretary Finance, Bashir Ahmad, Special Secretary Planning and Development, department, Arun Sharma.
