Rains in Valley, temp dips

SRINAGAR, May 16: Temperature in Kashmir declined by several notches today as rains lashed Valley while wet weather forecast has been predicted till weekend.
The rains started in the afternoon and continued till late night. A MeT official said fairly widespread rains are expected to lash Valley tomorrow followed by isolated and scattered rainfall till May 22.
The fresh downpour in Valley resulted in decline of mercury. The MeT official said the maximum temperature in Srinagar was recorded 22.2 degree Celsius against the previous 25.5 while the minimum temperature settled at 11.9 degree Celsius. Qazigund, the gateway of Kashmir Valley, recorded 14.8 degree Celsius maximum temperature while minimum temperature settled at 9.6 degree Celsius.
Pahalgam, which serves as Base Camp for annual Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage, recorded 18.1 degree Celsius day temperature and night temperature settled at 6.6 degree Celsius. The MeT official said maximum temperature in Gulmarg, a star skiing destination, was recorded 17.0 degree Celsius while the night temperature settled at 5.0 degree Celsius.
Kokernag in South Kashmir recorded 19.4 degree Celsius maximum temperature and 9.2 degree Celsius minimum temperature. The day temperature in Kupwara settled at 22.3 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature remained 11.2 degree Celsius. Leh recorded a 20.8 degree Celsius maximum temperature and the neighbouring Kargil recorded 24.7 degree Celsius maximum temperature.
