Rains lash Valley, temps drop

SRINAGAR, Apr 9: Rains lashed Kashmir today bringing down the maximum temperature across the Valley with the MeT office forecasting the wet spell to continue over the few next days.
The weatherman has forecast more rains in the Valley over the next three days. “There is a possibility of fairly widespread rain or snow or thundershowers over the State”, an official said.
The wet spell has come as good news for the people, who were experiencing above normal maximum temperatures, and also staring at drought-like conditions due to scant rain and snowfall in the winter.
The traffic on Leh highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir valley, remained disrupted due to landslides and fresh snowfall. There was an avalanche at Captain Morh and it was later cleared. Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was open for traffic despite rains.
The rains led to drop in the temperatures by several notches across the Valley.
Srinagar recorded a low of 10.2 degrees Celsius while the day temperature was recorded at 14.4 degrees Celsius, six notches down from  yesterday’s 20. 0 degrees Celsius.
The night temperature in Qazigund in South Kashmir settled at 8. 6 degrees Celsius while the day temperature was recorded at 18.0 degrees Celsius, five notches down from yesterday’s 23.1 degrees Celsius.
Kokernag town recorded a low of 8.0 degrees Celsius  while the day temperature was recorded at 16.8 degrees Celsius, fie notches down from yesterday’s  21.6 degrees Celsius.
Kupwara in North Kashmir recorded a low of 5.8 degrees Celsius while the day temperature was recorded at 13.6 degree Celsius, three notches down from yesterday’s 16.4 degrees Celsius.
Gulmarg recorded a minimum temperature of 2.0 degrees Celsius while the day temperature was 11.2 degrees Celsius, same as yesterday.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 6.3 degrees Celsius while the day temperature was 12.0 degree Celsius, seven notches down from yesterday’s 18.9 degrees Celsius.
Kargil settled at 16.6 degrees Celsius, three notches down from yesterday’s 19.5 degrees Celsius.
Leh town settled at 21.5, two degrees up from yesterday’s 19.8 degrees Celsius.
