Badminton Championship concludes

JAMMU, Sept 23: Ace shuttlers Raghav Dogra and Snowy Goswami lifted the men and women singles titles respectively in the All J&K Ranking / Selection Badminton Championship-2018 which concluded at Police Lines Badminton Hall, here today. Over 156 shuttlers drawn from the State participated in the Championship.
Gulzar Singh Slathia, former IGP and Dr O D Sharma, vice President Badminton Association of India and Chairman J&K Badminton Association distributed the prizes among the winners and runners-up teams. They also distributed Running Trophies to winners.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Fyaz Ahmad, Joint Secretary, J&K Badminton Association, Mirza Sultan, Satpal Sharma, Rahul Sharma, Balbir Singh Jamwal General Secretary J&K Badminton Association, Basanti Bhat, Vivek Mehta and S Saravavnan.
Raghav defeated Vipul Saini in the final, while Snowy trounced Niteshi Saini in the summit clash.
In Under-19 boys singles, Aesh Goswami drubbed Puranjay Sharma in the final, while in Under-19 girls, Rashmi Kashyap defeated Poorvi Singh in the summit clash to lift the title.
In Under-19 boys doubles, the duo of Mohit and Aryan got the better of Ashutosh and Ritik in the final, while in Under-19 girls doubles, the pair of Shruti and Anandita claimed the title by defeating the duo of Rashmi and Poorvi.
In Under-19 Mixed doubles, Nishkarsh and Niteshi defeated Dheeraj and Naman to win the title.
In Men’s doubles, Vipul and Raghav got the better of Sunil and Vasu to claim the title, while in women’s doubles, Rashmi and Poorvi prevailed over Rupal and Vashnavi to win the title and in Sr Mixed double, Akshay and Rupal outplayed Sunil and Niteshi to win the title.
Meanwhile, the team has been selected to represent J&K state in the North Zone Interstate Badminton Championship-2018 to be held at Udaipur, Rajasthan.
