“The road widening from Batamaloo to Qamarwari was started in 2002-2003 and was completed after shopkeepers cooperated with authorities. Now the 2nd phase of road widening from Qamarwari Chowk to Paramipora is under process. We are not against any development but we demand authorities to rehabilitate all shopkeepers whose shops are being removed in road widening,” General Secretary of the union, Mohammad Sultan Katjoo said
The protesters said that their demand is simple that they should be given alternate shops in the vicinity of the area, which will save the livelihood of affected shopkeepers and be able to feed their families.
